In 2018, as leaders from various African countries gathered in Beijing to attend the FOCAC summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to increase imports of non-natural resources from Africa.Īnd indeed, in the last three years, China has organized activities such as China International Import Exhibition (CIIE), China-Africa Economic and Trade Fair (CAETE), a festival to promote African products through the Internet among other activities that can be seen as concrete steps to help African products enter the Chinese market.Īccording to China’s Ministry of Commerce, China-Africa trade value increased by 40.5 percent in the first seven months of 2021 to $139.1 billion. The sides are considering reaching an agreement to further encourage balanced and sustainable business development between them. China and African countries have agreed to hold a ministerial-level meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) on 29-30 November in Dakar, Senegal. ![]()
